An absolutely wonderful place to visit. Located in the heart of the Cumbrian countryside, near Brampton and Hadrian'sWall, the site has a large car park adjacent to all the amenities. The cafe/restaurant was excellent and had a wide range of hot and cold food and drinks. Out door seating is available on a fine day. The gift shop is a must to visit. It sells a wide variety of good quality items (too many to mention !!) Lanercost Priory itself is stunning. Large parts of the original Augustinian priory remain intact, and the adjacent church is beautiful. The site is well managed and maintained by English Heritage, and I would like to thank Ian on reception for a very warm welcome and useful information about the site. Well worth a visit !

We visited the Lanercost Prior on our recent tour of the UK. What an amazing structure with a history that dates back to 1169. Inside the church was stunning. There is an old part of the priory in ruins as well. In the back is a cemetery with massive head stones that goes back to the beginning of this landmark. The priory actually hosted visits from Edward I starting in 1280. We loved our visit and highly recommend to anyone who loves history from this time period. The church is free to enter (they ask for donation for photos) and the Priory itself is at a fee.

A great destination for anyone interested in medieval history and the life in an abbey. Well preserved ruins, with an adjoining church to help the imagination. Close to an excellent cafe with toilets.
